The Joint Responds to Fires in Israel

For Immediate Release

As raging fires in Israel caused scores of injuries and widespread fear, the evacuation of more than 70,000, and the destruction of hundreds of homes and businesses, The Joint Distribution Committee (JDC) mobilized its Israel emergency response system and wide-ranging network of government, local municipality, and NGO partners to assess needs and ensure that the most vulnerable Israelis aided by The Joint are safe and cared for.

Our emergency team, led by Yossi Tamir and Sigal Shelach, mobilized into action immediately, monitoring the situation of the most vulnerable population groups, who suffer most in times of crisis and uncertainty, especially the elderly and the disabled.

As The Joint develops a more tailored recovery and rebuilding responses in cooperation with our partners, we are reaffirming our support for those most in need in of critical services in times of crisis. In particular, we have activated our "Center for Independent Living" online platform for people with disabilities to receive real-time help around the clock. Our web-based interactive portal is providing services, including support to calm concerns, and emergency information, for people with every kind of disability.

We are in constant contact with the national authorities and relevant local officials who have performed admirably from the onset of the emergency, and we are determining where The Joint can be of targeted assistance.

“The Joint’s massive reach and infrastructure in Israel makes it uniquely positioned to mobilize assistance immediately to people who need help,” said Eva Fischl, president of The Joint in Australia. “Jews in the diaspora often feel helpless at times like these but The Joint offers us an avenue to make a real difference to real people in real time and I hope people will give generously.”

As Israel continues to fight the fires, and care for her citizens, we remain at the ready -- standing shoulder to shoulder in solidarity -- to respond further, provide aid to the most vulnerable, and help strengthen Israel's social fabric for the future and in the event of another unfortunate crisis.

If you would like to contribute to The Joint’s emergency efforts to help with the recovery and rebuilding effort, donations can be made at website.

Logging In With One of Your Social Web Site Logins

Instead of trying to remember a bunch of special username/password combinations to log in to different web sites that you visit, you can now link your account on this web site to your account on one (or more) of the social media web sites shown and log in with the same username/password combination that you use on that social web site to log in to our site.

To provide this connection in a secure manner, we use Gigya, a social network connection provider that works behind the scenes to make safe, secure connections between user accounts on different systems, such as popular social media web sites like Facebook and web sites like ours where you are actively involved in social issues and causes.

Each time you log in, Gigya uses special application programming interfaces (APIs) to establish the connection between the sites and validate your username and password. Neither our web site or Gigya receive or store your social network passwords.

In addition to reducing the number of logins you have to remember, connecting your accounts can make it quicker and easier to share an activity or cause you feel passionately about from our web site with your friends on your social web sites.

You can break the connection between your accounts at any time.
